Creating a Closer Community

Islay Volunteer Development Project

About Us

The Islay Volunteer Development Project is a community project based in the Mactaggart Leisure Centre. It is jointly funded by the Voluntary Action Fund and the Argyll & the Islands LEADER Programme and aims to work with various local organisations to identify, recruit, train and support volunteers in our community.

The project was initially set up in consultation with Re-JIG, IDEAs, Bridgend Community Garden, and the Islay & Jura CVS with the aim of increasing the number of volunteers active in various organisations on the islands.

As the project has developed it now involves more organisations as partners and helps mentor volunteers in a wider range of roles. The project focuses on recruiting particular groups in society that are currently underrepresented in volunteering such as young, unemployed, or disabled people, and those on low incomes.

Our aim is to increase the number of volunteers active in various organisations on Islay to create a closer community.
